How does the
Alberta
Land Surveyors' Association ensure
Alberta
Land
Surveyors remain competent?
In
1994, the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association established a systematic practice
review program to ensure the continuing competency of its members.
- Approximately every five
years, the Practice Review Board:
- Reviews surveying practices
in general;
- Evaluates desirable
standards of competency of practitioners;
- Reviews each land
surveyor’s practice approximately every five years against the acts,
regulations and the Manual of Standard Practice;
- Assesses existing
educational standards and experience requirements and recommends changes
as required.
Systematic Practice Review does
not conduct reviews of practitioners based on complaints or concerns raised by
the public or Alberta Land Surveyors. Everyone is reviewed equally.
Systematic Practice Reviews are carried out by independent Alberta Land
Surveyors employed by the Association and overseen by a Practice Review Board.
The Practice Review Board is a peer group of Alberta Land Surveyors and one government-appointed
public member.
