The Surveys Act was recently revised by the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta. The Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association was part of the initial consultation with Alberta Environment and Parks and the Director of Surveys office and provided feedback to government for their consideration. With the passing of the revised statute in the Spring 2022 session, the Act has seen a series of modernizations, removals and inclusions that reflect a shift in how governments see their role and the role of the legislative framework. This session will examine the changes that were made, whether deletions, additions or edits, and discuss the opportunities that exist for the surveying profession going forward.
