Surveying on First Nations lands involves more than technical expertise — it calls for cultural understanding, meaningful relationships, a willingness to grow, and a deep respect for the governance traditions that shape each Nation’s relationship to land and stewardship. In this session, Jeremy Bonhomme — former Director of Lands and Community Development and Land Code Governance Advisor, and current freelance advisor on Additions to Reserve (ATR) and on-reserve development — shares insights from his work in First Nations land management. Drawing from real-world situations and lessons learned, this presentation creates space for listening, learning, and conversation about the historical truths and impacts of surveying — and what it means to engage with First Nations’ authority and jurisdiction in a good way.
