It is approximately six months until the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association comes under the Professional Governance Act.
Over the next six months, the ALSA will be preparing for the new legislation by…
- Reviewing the general regulation under the Professional Governance Act (currently waiting for the regulation from government).
- Reviewing and commenting on the land surveyor-specific regulation under the Professional Governance Act (currently waiting for the regulation from government).
- Updating the ALSA bylaws to be compliant with the legislation. Most sections of the bylaws have been circulated to the membership for comment already and other sections will come forward once any additional changes to the bylaws have been made arising from the land surveyor-specific regulation (see above).
- Update ALSA governing documents – including the Governance Manual, the Manual of Standard Practice, the Code of Ethics & Conduct, and the Essential Resources for Alberta Land Surveyors document.
- Update internal ALSA documents – such as the Boundary Panel handbook and CCR documents and templates – to ensure terminology and references are updated.
- Develop new complaint and discipline process templates, documents and checklists.
- Address any transitional provisions and issues.
