How Did Land Surveyors Deal with the Influenza Outbreak in 1918?

Once the jubilation of Armistice Day passed, a pall of gloom settled; veterans came home slowly as the cold winter set in, matching the province’s depressed economy. Albertans addressed the grim realities of post-war adjustments, laced as it was with further loss caused by the pandemic Spanish influenza. At first, reports of influenza did not alarm Albertans, who thought it to be no more serious than “la grippe.” Panic set in as tens of thousands came down with the flu, which eventually claimed the lives of 3,259 Albertans.
