City of Calgary CAD Standard

The City of Calgary has developed a new CAD (computer-aided design) standard to be used for engineering drawings. This standard has been developed over the last couple of years in conjunction with a large group of internal City and external consultant stakeholders.

The CAD Standard is to be used on capital projects that impact City of Calgary horizontal infrastructure initiated on or after January 1, 2019. The Standard will also apply to drawings for subdivision construction projects initiated on or after January 1, 2020.

Most of the consulting companies that work for the city have been notified months ago, but we want to try to make sure we haven’t missed anyone. It has been suggested that members of the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association may be impacted by this change.

The latest version of the standard and associated information can be accessed at Calgary.ca/CADStandard. Please e-mail any CAD Standard related questions or feedback to CADinfo@calgary.ca.
